Bliss Blood now plays ukelele and sings in a New York band called The Moonlighters, which also includes Henry Bogdan (formerly of Helmet). They play a hybrid of 20's and 30's style jazz with Hawaiian steel guitar of the same era; their material includes new, original songs written expressly for the group. They play every Tuesday night in Manhattan at Tramps Cafe (45 W. 21st Street) with no cover. They recently recorded with Dave Sardi of Barkmarket, and said recordings will soon be issued on 7" singles and a CD, hopefully this fall and early next year.
Latest dates:
Moonlighters have resumed weekly appearances at Tramps Cafe on Tuesdays, beginning January 5 at 11:30 p.m. They will also be playing at Baby Jupiter on January 21 (time TBA). The last weekend of December 1998 they played in the Brooklyn Museum of Art's hall of primitive American artifacts for approximately 400 people.
Some of their original tunes now include "Abandoned Blues, "It Isn't Good-Night Yet," "Resophonic Lullaby," "Blue and Black-Eyed," "Satnin' Daddy," "Mink Carpet," "Yowza!," "Mystified," and "Chaining up the Moonlight." Labels have begun to make the sniff-sniff noises so hopefully said material will be available to all before long.
Swank post-SWANS connection: Bliss and Daria (also from the band) will be singing with Michael Gira January 17, 1999 at Tonic in New York. Bliss will be playing ukelele and possibly musical saw. She and Daria both will be singing (I think).
